Evaluation

Tuesday the 14 th of January I completed the collaborative project and now taking this time to reflect on the whole experience . Il be telling you what I would’ve done differently and what I would of stayed the same .

firstly when starting this project I never had done many animatics before so when I presented mine I didn’t realise the standard it had to be at for instance . There where to few drawings in the piece even in animatic terms there was no character designs in the whole piece as the client wouldn’t be able to tell what the characters where meant to like looking at my piece unlike most other peoples.

I would’ve liken not to work on the 3d so much for the animatic and put that effort into the actual drawing process to make the animatic more professional looking . I would’ve liken to add a lot more scenes to my piece just to make it more diverse when people are viewing it as i stuck with mostly the same background .

after we got selected into teams and we got scenes divided amongst ourselves . Some scenes got swapped around without anyone notifying the animators which lead to some temporary confusing as the communication should have been a bit better .

once we went into production which was perfect the directors divided the work very fairly and evening across all four team members . Utilizing there skills to the best of there ability and evening trying additional skills . for example i had never tried lip sync before this project which was a great learning curve for me as it improved my skills a lot .

When designing the background it was a hard process as initially I was told to use a mostly red colour palette which I did . But after meeting the clients halfway through the process the noted that the blood spatter might of been too hard to see on the red background which was fair . It was a easy fix as I went back over the paints I used and just change them and the toon boom software changes them over the whole piece .

the next scene I worked on was the zoom in through the window into the sitting room this scene wasn’t too difficult as I made the layers 3D objects and it was straightforward from there the only I would do different I wish I did this scene in after effects . Next I had to animate the axe swing there are a couple of things I would change about this scene the editor slowed down

the scene to much to the point it looked choppy it runs much better on 30 fps . I would also change the eye glowing I wish I had done the animation and put the eye glowing on a separate layer just have I could achieve a much smother look . The headless body was my next scene I enjoyed this scene much like the last scene it was frame by frame it was done in 24fps . the only thing i would change about this scene is I wish i had animated the blood on 2’s just make the splatter look better .

I animated the axe by the side in this scene I added a shine on the axe just to highlight the edge of the piece . Just to make the piece more interesting i would of liken to add the main character Evan gulp but unfortunately I didn’t have the time to add the scene and going to be better with my time management in the future .

My last scene was the scene where Evan is upset this scene was the most difficult as I rarely use rig’s and I’ve never done lip-synch before but I found it a good learning curve I did find out I much prefer hand drawn animation and lip-synch is not that bad once u get into it

Overall I found the Collab a great experience as it though me a lot about time management communications and planning ones work which are the necessity to becoming a working professional .
